Water Treatment Department

The City of Union City is fortunate to have an abundant supply of quality water from the Wilcox aquifer which is 600 feet in depth with a protected clay layer which is 50 feet in depth.

About 7,200 metered customers are on Union City’s water system. Union City obtains its water from four wells. We pump an average of four million gallons a day with a capacity of 10.2 million gallons per day. The water plant’s treatment process consists of aeration, filtration, corrosion control, chlorination, and fluoridation. 406,350 gallons of treated water is stored at the plant clearwell.

The plant’s three high service pumps move the water from the clearwell into Union City’s 600 miles of distribution lines and five water tanks located throughout the service area. The water tanks have a combined capacity of 2,050 million gallons. This storage is used to meet system demands and fire flow requirements.
