City Hall and Services

Tax payments are due annually by the last day of February and are accepted in person at City Hall, online or by phone. A one and one-half percent (1.5%) per month penalty is assessed on late payments.
Real property is assessed at 25% of total market value.
Commercial property is assessed at 40% of total market value.
Personal property is assessed at 30% of total market value.
City Tax rate is $2.17 per $100 of assessed value.
Obion County tax rate inside City limit is $1.6492 per $100 of assessed value.
Obion County tax rate outside City limit is $2.0042 per $100 of assessed value.

Office personnel submit Business License Application to the State of Tennessee at a cost of $15.00 per application. Business renewals may also be obtained through City Hall following payments submitted to the State of Tennessee. Burial lots are available at Eastview Cemetery and may be purchased at City Hall.

Annual animal licenses are required and may be purchased at City Hall. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required at the time of purchase.

Rural Fire memberships are available to property owners outside the city limits but within the City’s fire district. Applications for service and annual payments of $75.00 may be paid at City Hall. Further information and a map of the City’s rural fire district are available at the City Fire Department website www.ucfdtn.com or call the Central Fire Station at 731.885.4851.
The City of Union City provides water, sewer, and refuse collection. Utility meters are read and bills generated to customers on a monthly basis. Penalty is charged on payments made after the due date. Service charges apply to payment arrangements and an additional fee is charged for after hour reconnection due to non-payment. All requests for city utility services must be made in person at City Hall, with a picture ID and proof of social security number. Any previous delinquent accounts must be satisfied in full prior to establishing new service. The above conditions are based on uniform policy without exception.
Basic 5/8” line (3/4” meter) monthly residential and commercial inside the city limits = $7.60 minimum (includes first 2,000 gallons) + $2.30 per 1,000 gallons up to 999,999.

Sewer charges are based on the amount of water used. Basic monthly residential and commercial sewer rate inside city limit is $7.15 minimum + $2.05 per 1,000 gallons of water metered. Additional sewer rates can be obtained by contacting customer service at City Hall.
Refuse Collection Rates:
The City of Union City contracts with a private refuse collection company to provide weekly refuse services for city residents and businesses. Basic residential rates are $15.00 per month and will be charged on the utility billing. Additional information on rates and routes schedules can be obtained by contacting City Hall.
Water and Sewer Tap Fees:

(e) 3” and up for labor and materials cost plus twenty percent (20%) of said costs when the City installs the tap. $400.00 fee will be charged in the event a contractor installs the tap, plus the cost any street work that may be required by the City.

(e) 3” and up for labor and materials cost plus two hundred percent (200%) of said costs when the city installs the tap. $900.00 fee will be charged in the event a contractor installs the tap, plus the cost any street work that may be required by the city.

(a) 4 - 6” Residential sewer line permit $300 for the first permit
(b) Four additional sewer taps on same line $50 each
(c) Fifth additional sewer taps and up on same line are $30 each
Commercial Inside City Limits
(a) 6” to 8” Commercial sewer line permit $400 for the first permit
(b) Each additional permit on same line is $100 each
Building permits are applied for at City Hall through the Department of Planning and Codes Enforcement. The cost of building permits are $5.00 for the first $1,000 value of improvement and $3.00 for each $1,000 thereafter. These fees are paid at customer service in City Hall
